There is a trend within sport writing and indeed this very blog to focus on the bad things. The corruption, the gambling, the banned substances, the obscene amounts some sporting protagonists are paid for kicking a bladder around, the whole kit and kaboodle. There is all too little focus on the good things that sport can achieve. Well here’s one for you. This incredibly driven man has just swum the English Channel. Nothing really new in that I hear your chortle (not that you or me for that matter has done it!) except this man has no arms and legs. That’s right he has no arms or legs having had them amputated some years ago after an electrical accident. So when you’re focusing all too often on the downside, just think of Philippe Croizon and remember there is a considerable upside!
